Definition:[1746 - 1828]a Spanish painter who was very successful in his time. The French invasion of Spain [1808 - 1814] influenced his work as did his later hearing problems. His painting below ("the first totally profane life-size female nude in Western art") was confiscated by the Spanish Inquisition in 1813 for being obscene.
