The rest of us will watch the videos. Perhaps it was the intense collaborative effort between the cast and producers that made the writing so good, but regardless the Blackadder series is arguably the wittiest television programme the BBC produced in the 1980's.

Similar to how Branagh approached his film version of Hamlet, these young comedians were too ambitious in set selection during season one; despite excellent writing even some of the cast admit (in hindsight) that story was often lost. Therefore if you are new to this series we recommend starting with season 2 before viewing season 1.
