an Italian Christian philosopher who is still highly revered by the Catholic church. He founded Thomism which "...believed that truth is to be accepted no matter where it is found." (unless said truth conflicts with church credenda...)

His classification of all matter and life, from top to bottom (scala naturae) was once widely accepted, with God at the top and sand at the very bottom.
